Policy and Distribution Issues in Agricultural Commodity Promotion Programs

Director's Corner

by Harry M. Kaiser

You will notice that with the help of my administrative assistant, Anita Vogel, I am editing this issue of NICPRE Quarterly. Una Moneypenny, who did an outstanding job editing this newsletter over the past couple years, resigned her position at NICPRE to take a new job in the Department of Computer Science at Cornell University. We wish her well.

In the mean time, Anita and I will take over Una’s duties in putting the Quarterly together. Our goal is to continue to publish a high quality newsletter featuring the latest results on economic research conducted on commodity promotion, as well as occasional columns by program managers, government officials, and legal scholars.

This issue is devoted exclusively to the promotion program run by the California Almond Board. John Crespi and Richard Sexton summarize the findings of a study that investigated the market-wide impacts of almond advertising in the United States.

As always, we encourage and invite submissions to the Quarterly on topics that deal with commodity promotion and advertising.
